Day 4: Moving on to Rome

Photos and writing by Jamie '20

From the day your education begins at Trinity, you learn about Greek and Roman culture. We learned how to think like the philosophers and structure our education after the ingenious men of the ancient days. We learned about the rise and fall of great empires, and today we saw it all. We walked where Julius Caesar walked and visited Caesar Augustus’ grave. We visited the Colosseum where gladiators and beasts battled, drank from the aqueducts the Romans used many years ago, and made a wish at Trevi fountain where we all wished to return to Rome again someday. All these stories of legend and history has intertwined with each other in this place.

From the moment we landed, we have been struck by waves of culture shocks. Between the food, the jet lag, the foreign language, aching feet after walking nine miles overall, and the constant smell of cigars, it’s no wonder we are all exhausted and falling asleep on the bus.

Despite our exhaustion, it is impossible not to admire the scenery and historical significance that are at each and every turn. Today was a day full of beauty and increases our anticipation for what the next day brings.
